Here's a little
morseau for all you abject Speed Freaks out there (and you know who you are):
"On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend, a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris. The film was limited for technical reasons to 10 minutes; the course was from Porte Dauphine, through the Louvre, to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur. No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit.
The driver completed the course in about 9 minutes, reaching nearly 140 MPH in some stretches. The footage reveals him running real red lights, nearly hitting real pedestrians, and driving the wrong way up real one-way streets."
It's a
great watch. Good ending, too. Turns out there was a plot all along. BTW the director got arrested for making this, but they never found out which F1 driver was at the wheel of the Ferrari.
Reminds me of a high speed run we once made from Cape Cod to NYCin a McLaren Mustang and a 300ZX. The McLaren's speedometer only went to 80 (it was a stock part), but our buddy in the 300ZX let us know when we hit appropriate speeds. Top speed was around
155 mph somewhere in Connecticut--
on I-95 in broad daylight. The rest of the time we were doing more like 120-130.
Also, Fran from
Dutchtilt Desktops (who made the kick-ass new Haus banner) has informed me that there's a
new site out there just for Ralf Schumacher fans. The description says:
"This group is for guys who love hot F1 drivers such as Jacques Villeneuve, Jenson Button, Ralf Schumacher, Fernando Alonso, Nick Heidfeld, Juan Pablo Montoya, Kimi Raikkonen, Felipe Massa, Giancarlo Fisichella, Christian Klien, Nico Rosberg among others. Discussion about your hot fantasies about these drivers among other stories are more than welcome.
DISCUSSIONS ON THIS SITE WILL USUALLY BE OF AN ADULT NATURE, SO IF YOU FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE BY SUCH DISCUSSIONS, THEN PERHAPS THIS MIGHT NOT BE THE GROUP FOR YOU"
Thanks, Ralf!
